Super Bowl vs Puppy Bowl

Max's favorite team, the Kansas City Chiefs, didn't make the Super Bowl, so he will be watching the Puppy Bowl instead.

Without too much light in our backyard, it always seems like it is hard to see Max when he goes out in the evening. But that will not be the case any longer. This great little light clips to Max's harness and helps us follow him wherever he goes. Shine on, friends!

Max is Back!

Hi everydog! I'm back! I know it has been a while (a long while) but my mom is back at it and says that now that she can blog on her phone, she'll keep you up-to-date on all my happening. California Crusin' with Max

Today Maxy took his first ride on a bicycle! At the onset, I wasn't sure if he would like the idea of being pedaled around in a basket. Max is the kind of guy who likes to be in control, call the shots, that sorta thing. But much to my delight, Maxy immediately took to his basket!


Tucked in his blanket, he happily perched to watch the world as it passed by; his ears sticking straight in the air, perceptive to his surroundings, Max loved to see (and be taller than) the doggies we passed.


After we arrived home from our ride, Max was a little reluctant to get out of the basket. He really seemed to take a shining to whole bicycle riding experience. Tomorrow morning, we hit the road for some more cruisin =)

Max for Bbeauty Designs

Max recently had a photo shoot with Bbeauty Designs, a designer located in Morgan Hill, California. Bbeauty Designs specializes in handcrafted, made-to-order pet clothes, hats, bandannas and beds.


The shoot took place at the design studio and was a lot of fun. They had plenty of treats for Max, so he was super attentive, though not use to the heat of all the studio lights.

In Max's shoot, he wore a plaid jacket with a fur collar, a fancy black sweater, a reversible bandanna, an eight panel cap, and a scarf.


We were surprised we could get Max to wear this hat. He doesn't so happy in this photo, but he wore it nonetheless... at least for a few seconds ;)

Max was such a trooper and was great during the shoot, but was definitely ready to get home and take a nap!

Max is Back!

Another trip to Banfield

On Monday morning, I noticed that little Maxy was not feeling so well. He appeared to have an upset tummy. He seemed to get better throughout the day, but was sick throughout the night. On Tuesday morning, I look him to see Dr. Rao at Banfield Pet Hospital. Hoping it was not another case of pancreatitis, I had to leave him for blood work and monitoring.

After a series of tests, the doctors could not determine what was wrong. They put him on an IV for the day to help him regain his fluids.

When I picked him up he seemed to have more energy, but still seemed a little sicky... so I got him a new bed to make him more comfortable :)

As strange as it sounds, Dr. Rao prescribed 2.5 mg of Pepcid AC for stomach acid, and Pedialyte to help restore his electrolytes. She also put Max back on the percription food.


Much to my surprise, Max enjoyed the orange-flavored Pedialyte and even ate his new food. He seems to be feeling a lot better, but still is not 100% back to normal.


Hopefully he'll be back to chasing squirrels again soon!

Tips For Protecting Your Pet In The Chilly Weather

Don't drop the ball when the temperature drops. Use these easy tips to keep your pet warm and safe during the chilly winter months.

Don't forget to provide adequate shelter and snacks
Remember that Pets need adequate shelter from wind and rain when the temperatures drop. Older, chronically ill or debilitated Pets may have more difficulty during cold weather. While the best course of action is to leave your Pet inside during cold weather, if you must leave your Pet outdoors, increase his or her food intake. When Pets are exposed to cold weather, they require extra calories to stay warm.

Freezing temps call for a slumber party - Bring in the doggies!
Pets are safer indoors in freezing weather. Dogs need outside exercise but only for limited periods – be attentive to body temperature and limit time outdoors, especially to prevent frostbite on ears and feet. If you suspect frostbite, seek veterinary attention.

An icy water bowl is no fun for anyone
Cold temperatures can freeze drinking water left outdoors. Your Pet can also damage his or her paws trying to break through icy surfaces. In freezing temperatures, you need to check the water frequently or purchase a heater for your Pet's water bowl.

Antifreeze, the attractive nuisance
Regular antifreeze (ethylene glycol) is attractive to Pets because it has a sweet taste. Even in very small quantities, the ingestion of antifreeze can be fatal. Licking antifreeze off the floor of the garage is enough to be dangerous. Check your car for coolant leaks and clean up spilled antifreeze immediately. Optimally, use antifreeze-coolant made with propylene glycol, which won't hurt Pets, wildlife or family members.

Check for chilly kitties before starting your engine
Cats may climb onto vehicle engines seeking warmth during cold weather. Severe, sometimes fatal injuries can result from being struck by a moving fan belt. Be sure to knock on or check under the hood before starting your vehicle and honk the horn to startle any Pets who may have sought shelter underneath your vehicle.

Pet-friendly de-icing is a must
The salt and other chemicals used to melt snow and ice may irritate the pads of your Pet's feet. Wipe the feet with a damp towel every time when coming in from outdoors – even if you don't see salt on the walkways. Many pet stores sells a pet-friendly de-icing product that is safe for use around Pets or young children.

Indoor Pets may need some extra monitoring too
Some Pets, such as reptiles or tropical fish may be temperature-sensitive to cold air. Pay attention to room temperatures to ensure that these Pets don't get chilled. Also, bundle up your babies if they are cold. Remember, hot air rises so your pup may get chilly. Put a sweater on him, or give him an extra blankie for those cold nights!

Max is Fit to be "Tied": Custom Ties

For Max's 3rd birthday, his pal, TJ, sent a rad gift... ties! TJ's mom owns a company called TJM Designs, which makes an assortment of amazing dog clothes. She made these beautiful ties just for Max!

Max, The Karate Dog: Howl-I-Ween Costume

This year, I decided I would roll up my sleeves and make a cute little Howl-I-Ween costume for Max. I had no idea what Max would be, so I went to the local thrift shop to browse for ideas. I came across a white pair of scrubs and a black fabric belt. Three dollars later, I was on my way home to start my craft project.

I measured down Max's back, then I cut the bottom of the pants. Then I cut the pant leg open, along the seam. I measured from arm to arm, over Max's back. I then measured the cloth and make little slits for Max's arms.


Now I have a little white jacket for Max, which is fully customizable. I decided to make him into a little Karate Dog. So I printed a Chinese War sign (which is used on many Karate gees) from the web. I traced the sign on the back center of the coat with a black fine point sharpie and filled it in with a thick sharpie.


Then I measured around Max's belly and cut the black belt. I tied the black belt around his belly and slid the knot to the front.

Max's Vegas Pawty was Pawsome!

Max's 3rd Birthday was a great success! All of his bestest puppy buddies in the Bay came to visit and play. This year, as most of you know, it was Vegas-inspired and fabulous!

Max was lucky enough to have a floral dog created and donated by Geraldine's Event Planning in San Jose, California. As you can see, the floral dog was a dealer at the poker game. It was perfectly adorable!

We also had a Vegas buffet and everyone's favorite, pupcakes! Pupcakes are a spice cake base with carrots and a yummy cream cheese icing! Who can say no to those!

Max Visits Sausalito, California

Hi everyone! I know it has been a while, but we are back to blogging :)

A couple weeks ago we took Max to Sausalito, California for a day trip. Sausalito, which means "little willow" is situated on the northeast end of the Golden Gate Bridge in Marin County. It is a beautiful little town that combines hillside with shoreline, and best of all, Sausalito is very dog-friendly!

We had lunch on the shore and Max enjoyed watching the birds. It is a great weekend getaway for anyone who is visiting the Bay Area.

After a fun-filled day in Sausalito, Max had a date with Lilo, the maltese.

Party Planning for a Vegas-Themed Birthday Pawty

It's almost that time again... MAX'S BIRTHDAY! Which means, let the party planning begin. Max loves to throw fun birthday parties which include playtime and great treats and gift bags for the puppies, and food and fun for the humans as well.

In the past, we have had luau and cowboys & indians pawties. This year, we're going Vegas, baby! Casino Royale!

This year Max is turning 3 in doggie years, which means 21 in human years. So we have decided to go with a Vegas theme for our little high roller!

Does anyone have ideas as to what goes into a Vegas-themed paw-ty? We are planning a Vegas-inspired buffet dinner and Paw-tinis for the humans.

We will definitely make pupcakes for the puppies. Can you think of any decorations, food, or other goodies that are a must???

Summer Safety Tips for Your Pet

As summer quickly approaches, there are a few tips to keep in mind to keep your pet healthy and happy.

Never leave your pet in the car. Though you may only be running a quick errand, it only takes a few minutes for your pet to overheat. Even if it feels cool outside and your windows are down, the sun can raise the temperature inside your car to over 120 F in a matter of minutes. I know it is difficult for those of you who, like me, like to take your baby everywhere with you. However, your pet will be much happier and safer at home in a temperature controlled environment.

Provide ample water. Water should always be accessible to your pet. Even if you only put out food once or twice a day, be sure to always have water available. We always have at least two water bowls available for Max just in case. And if you plan to go on a car trip or other outdoor activity, don't depend on alternative water sources. Be sure to take your own water and bowl. Pets are often more comfortable drinking out of their own dish and will be more likely to stay hydrated.

Be careful when cutting. Before you get your dog that "high and tight" summer haircut, talk to your vet or groomer to determine if your pet is likely to get a sunburn. Some pets, particularly those with light skin and hair, are prone to sunburns. Sunburns effect pets in the same way they do humans: pain, peeling, itching and even the increased likelihood of skin cancer. If you decide to go with the short cut, as we do with Max, you may want to layer him in a light-weight shirt when going out in the sun.

Don't let your pet overdo it. Though exercise is important to all pets, make sure your pet doesn't overexert himself. This could lead to your pet being overheated, and thus a heatstroke. So long as your pet is a healthy weight, this shouldn't be much of a problem. But if your pet begins to pant uncontrollably, then it is time to rest. If your pet does have a heatstroke, place cool, wet towels on hairless parts of the body, such as the belly, and call your vet immediately.

Max is taking a break... he doesn't want to overdo it!
